Yoga Poetica: Writing the Poetry of the Body

Shawn Parell and David Keplinger

Hosted at YogaSource, Santa Fe
Friday October 18 – Sunday October 20, 2019

Come explore the working relationships within the body of a poem while discovering and writing the poems of your body during this weekend immersion that includes yoga and meditation practice with Shawn Parell and poetic guidance from David Keplinger, a master of the craft. Together, we will open to discover, as the English poet William Blake did, that there is no separation between the body and the soul — rather, the body is simply the portion of the soul you can perceive through the five senses. Join these two inspired teachers for a unique weekend that includes:
  • Reading and discussion of relevant poetry ranging from ancient texts of the yoga tradition to contemporary American poets.
  • Immersive Prana Vinyasa and restorative flow yoga
  • Meditation, creative writing, and group dialogue on the art and craft of writing poetry.

All levels of writing and yoga experience are welcome. Students must register for the entire weekend; no single session drop-ins.

Cost: $275.00 + tax ,  4 sessions Friday-Sunday, Guadalupe Studio 2

Taste of the Goddess: Shakti Immersion for Sharad Navaratri

4 – 6:30pm | Sunday, October 6, 2019

Hosted at YogaSource, Santa Fe

One of our greatest spiritual invitations is to shift our consciousness from a perspective of lack to one of intrinsic abundance. Nature beckons us to this journey out of fear-thinking as autumn ripens, the trees release their leaves, the darkness grows, and we perceive again the ancient truth of letting go.

In an echo of nature’s impulse, practitioners in India have celebrated for centuries the holy autumn festival of Sharad Navaratri, nine nights of devotional attunement to the primordial source of creation and love. The harvest season is honored with a deep bow to the Mother, known as Shakti — the Goddess in her multiform. In some places each of nine auspicious nights is dedicated to a particular form of Durga, the force of transformation who wisely wields her weapons of consciousness in Indian mythology. In other places, the maternal energies represented by Durga, Lakshmi, and Saraswati are recognized in sequence to serve a spiritual and psychological unfolding.

In this experiential nod to the festival of Navaratri, we’ll touch the Goddess through a full-spectrum sadhana (practice) of mantra, mudra, and Shakti namaskar movement meditation as transmitted by Shawn’s teacher, Shiva Rea, within the Prana Flow lineage. All are welcome.
